“Gaming with a real guitar - that’s too good to be true – does it really work?”
Yes, well… kind of. Automatic recognition of notes and chords is difficult and extremely dependant on the type of audio signal. When LittleBigStar is played with a proper interfaced clean guitar, it does remarkably well. But nothing is perfect - some notes will not be recognized and sometimes unplayed notes are detected. In particular, there is a weakness in recognizing chords. The implementation of LittleBigStar is bound by current state-of-the-art research in the field. Hopefully it will be a good experience for most - and if you will feel disappointed, remember that this is FREE software (for personal use) and that the hard working developer is devoting all his free time to improve it for future versions. |
LittleBigStar supports common audio and score/tabulature formats, which make it possible to load up any song!
Yes. It works. If you want to play along a real song audio file, you’ll have to use accurate score files so that score and audio will be in sync.
None… Because of copyrighting no songs are bundled with the download. Score files are copyrighted just like audio files.
Form version 0.5., LittleBigStar can host VST instruments and effects. This way any player can setup unique sound with VSTi instruments regardsless of which instrument he is playing.
For example, if you use a guitar, setup a bass syntj to play the bass line on the guitar. You could also hook up a Cello or a Drum machine. Thus, LittleBigStar is the worlds first decent software guitar synthesizer (… and hardware guitar synthesizers cost hundreds of dollars).
Furthermore, guitars and other audio instruments can use VST effects, like amp modelling and stompbox effects to get the right sound in any setting.
LittleBigStar brings together the best of music technology and is ground breaking in many ways. These are the highlights:
State-of-the-art audio and note recognition.
This makes LittleBigStar the world’s first software guitar synthesizer! Note recognition is doing very well with guitars connected with a decent guitar interface and the karaoke implementation is on pair with commercial success titles.
VST (Virtual Studio Technology).
With thousands of VST instruments and effects available, VST has become the standard for sound synthesis. LittleBigStar is the first software to load VST instruments directly into a 3D environment.
GuitarPro tablature and synchronization.
The GP format is the leading tablature data format. Tens of thousands of GP tablatures can be found. LittleBigStar offers a tool to synchronize music to tablature.
Advanced multiplayer possibilities.
LittleBigStar was designed to be a multiplayer game. It is possible to setup a band on any combination of real instruments, MIDI instruments and game controllers, each generating real sound for a real band experience.
Open platform.
LittleBigStar offers an open platform for anybody to exploit and make MusicWare. Proof of concept implementations of guitar visualizations and music games are available with full source code.
