SmartSync
From LittleBigStar
The SmartSync frontend is used for synchronizing score/tablature to audio.
Syncing Preparations
- You'll need and Ogg audio file and a GuitarPro (3 4 or 5) file file with the exact same name (for example MySong.GP3 and MySong.Ogg).
- Start one player game and pick SmartSync in the 'choose game' menu.
- At the song menu pick the song to sync.
- Most tablature files have different tracks so choose a track.
- Play around with the Left/Right arrow keys to get comfortable with moving the marker.
- Try to use the Tab key to jump to the position of the time marker.
- These are the keyboard commands at your disposal:
'Right arrow key' moves the marker to the next measure bar. 'Left arrow key' moves the marker to the previous measure bar. 'Space' pins a note or a note measure in time. 'tab key' jumps the marker to where the time marker is.
How to sync a song:
- The music has already started so once you have selected a track hit 'esc' and replay.
- Some music is easy to sync by hitting spacebar at all measure beats.
- Other music you'll need to pin a few notes in the beginning and then at the end and then in the middle.
- The beginning can be the hardest part.
- Use right arrow key to stay ahead of the timeline and just watch the notes (This moves you from measure to measure you will see it turn pink).
- Watching the notes and staying ahead of the timeline, you'll get a feel for what measure is playing.
- Listen to the music and find a good significant measure bar with the arrow keys.
- When you hear it being played, hit the spacebar to pin the measure. (The measure will turn blue after pressing the spacebar and the score is aligned).
- Pin some more measures. You dont need to pin every measure. A few in the front, a few in the middle and a few in the end.
- Already after a few pinned measures you should restart. You will see that it's working and your changes remain.
- Repeat until done.
- Remember to save your sync data (hit esc to get the the menu and press enter on the save option)
Tips
- It takes a little pratice. It is usually helpful to stay ahead of the timeline and just watch where the notes were falling once or twice through. You'll get the idea...
- Every tab is different, some are really close to being in sync and dont need much adjusting. Others are impossible and was probably never intended to be a real accurate score of a real song.
- Use all tracks. Different parts are easier to hear and follow, for example an acoustic track at the beginning a distorted guitar track at the end. Perhaps there is vocal line which is usually simple to get right.
- If you mees it up, it's easier to start over. Currently, this is a bit tedious, you will need to exit LBS and restart it without saving the song.
